We can create our communities to be better environment for our stay when we accept the wrongs and correct them rather than seeing a mistake and not finding solutions to them. The Hijabi Mentorship Program (THMP) had an intergenerational dialogue in Msambweni sub-county that involved 30 participants from Mwaembe, Vingujini, Nyumbasita, Bomani, Vidungeni and Kisimachande villages on matters of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Both men and women, ypung and old who took part in the dialogue, openly spoke about GBV and SRHR issues in Msambweni how to address it and to find possible solutions to eradicate the problem in their area.

The GBV cases mostly in the area are;

· Rape

· Early marriages

· Girl child denied access to education

· Female genital mutilation

· Unequal distribution of wealth

Lack of knowledge is a big problem generating many GBV cases in the area, whereby many people don’t know their rights. Poverty is a big challenge and teenage girls are forced to drop out of school and given

out for marriages. Harmful cultures practiced mostly affect the girl child case like FGM and girl child is not supposed to study but stay home get married and become a housewife.

What is the essence of reporting and action does not take place. Most GBV victims their cases are rigid in the system, there is bureaucracy and intimidations which many of them are pushed to drop or throw away the GBV cases.

The participants of the dialogue agreed that there is a need for sex education in their households since it is not conducted because parents do not find it essential that there is a need for their children to learn it at an early stage. They say the early the better, when children grow up and learn about this I believe there will be less or no case on GBV and SRHR knowledge.
